A water world is discovered in space. An gravitational machine is holding the water together using in space. A race of people have created a civilization of millions living in the water mining the water for oxygen and desalinizing the water for consumption. The mining has changed the density of the water and the water world is beginning to evaporate into space.

Tom Paris disobeys the Prime Directive and tries to blow up the mining equipment, but Janeway intervenes and intercepts the missile. Tom is stripped of his command and put in the brigg for 30 days of isolated confinement.

Paris thought his actions were justified because the subcommittee was not going to act and the scientific research would be shelf for later evaluation in the mean time the “Global Warming” threat was being ignored.

The Prime Directive was preserved but the planets gravitational engine continued to malfunction leading to the complete destruction of the water world. Janeway did not feel morally responsible to intervene in the internal politics of the world and allow them to destroy their planet. Was she right in her decision of non intervention? The planet did not have the technology to fix the problem and Voyager did, but chose to respected the subcommittees decision of inaction.

It was also a good season for buddies Kim and Paris (Robert Duncan MacNeill). In addition to “Timeless,” Kim takes center stage in “The Disease” when he embarks on a dangerous romance. Paris is thrown in the brig in “Thirty Days,” and his Captain Proton holodeck simulation goes haywire in “Bride of Chaotica!” In “Course Oblivion,” a ship wedding is the prelude to a deadly displacement for the entire crew.

It wasn’t all slam-bang action. The Doctor’s (Robert Picardo) buried memories lead to an ethical conflict in “Latent Image,” and he and Seven (the two most consistently interesting crew members) dabble in the most unlikely of romances in one of the series’ most touching and memorable episodes “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Also, Jason Alexander (then in Seinfeld) guest-stars as a scheming alien in “Think Tank.” Voyager didn’t always close its season with a cliffhanger, but in “Equinox, Part 1″ an attempt to aid another Federation starship in the Delta Quadrant uncovers a threat that might destroy them both.

The bonus features include a season recap, crew profiles of Voyager’s resident couple, B’Elanna Torres and Paris, a 19-minute spotlight on the makeup process (Neelix was created as a combination of Timon and Pumbaa in The Lion King), and “The Borg Queen Speaks,” in which Susanna Thompson discusses the difficulties of shooting and how she had originally auditioned for the same role in Star Trek: First Contact. –David Horiuchi

After many, many years of buying “cheap sunglasses” I finally decided to see if the people who said good glasses were worth it. Unfortunately, after dropping $[...] on a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators, only a year later, they got smashed in a bad bicycle accident. The fact that I ordered a new pair a few days later is a testament to how convinced I am that good sunglasses with glass lenses are worth it.

On the first day, a pair of Aviators don’t feel significantly different from the knock-offs. They aren’t lighter, the image isn’t clearer, the eye protection isn’t better, they don’t look better on me. But after just a few weeks of mild use, the cheap plastic-lens glasses start to get smudges and tiny scratches, almost too tiny to see. You don’t notice it at first because it progresses so slowly and gradually, but little by little, the view through them gets muddled, they get harder to clean, and you start hating them, all without even realizing. One day you get new ones and the sudden contrast is striking — wow, these are so much better! That’s your only clue for how bad the old ones really had gotten by such slow stages you never noticed.

Glass-lens, good quality sunglasses are like that first day every day. They don’t develop the smudges, the scratches, the difficulty with being cleaned, the gradual degradation of quality. The day that I lost them, they were as crisp and clear, they looked as good, they fit as well, and they worked as well as the first day.

If they cost ten times as much, they ought to last ten times as long to be worth it. And assuming you don’t sit on them, lose them, or get into a bike accident with them on like I did, they should do that easily. But even if they don’t quite last that long, they might still be worth it. After all, ten pairs of cheap sunglasses that are smudgy and unpleasant to wear for at least half of their lives is not as nice an experience as one pair that’s wonderful every day.

I was once invited to a Vidocq Society meeting and saw the members in action as they dissected a cold case. It was fascinating to watch them work as a group, and there are indeed some colorful characters among the membership. Author Capuzzo presents them to us, focusing on the three founding members: forensic sculptor Frank Bender, retired federal agent Bill Fleisher, and forensic psychologist Richard Walter. The Vidocq cases sometimes seem like fiction they’re so rich. I only wish it hadn’t taken half the book to get to them. A lot of time is spent on the founders, but it gets repetitious. I mean, how many times do we have to be told that Frank Bender is a ladies man? I know Frank very well, and there’s a lot more to him than that. His intuitive brilliance and his unique work process are what make him a key member of the society. As other reviewers have pointed out, the stories are top-notch, and if you can wade through the repetitions and patches of purple prose, you will not be disappointed.

When I walked out of this movie back in 2001 I recall it made me think about how love is important in life. You can have a love life and still have time for your boys. “The Brothers” is a movie that combines elements of The Wood and Waiting To Exhale. The Brothers paled by Morris Chestnut(Jackson), D.L.Hughley(Derrick), Bill Belamy(Brian) and Shemar Moore(Terry) each have a quality that makes them special to the movie. Jackson is the commitment phobic brother who’s scared to get involved with a women because of his parent failed marriage that is until he meets Denise played by the sexy Gabierlla Union. Derrick is the married one whose wife won’t perform oral sex on him. Brian is the ulimate player whose can’t find joy in black women so he turns to white women and Terry is a playboy who decides to go staright and marry his girlfriend. The movie is very real in it’s portrayal of what black men go through when it comes to women. I related the most to Jackson though. I highly recomend this movie. See it with your girl , your boys or whoever. D.L and Bill steal every scene there in. Cliffton Powell and Jennifer Lewis are great in supporting roles.

The Brothers depicts a glamorous world in which everyone is good-looking and well dressed; the number of characters makes it hard to delve into anyone’s life with any depth, but the actors are engaging and the script makes an effort to look at the “battle of the sexes” from both sides. I’ve always heard about this book. In my English classes the Sci-Fi geeks would do nothing but rave about it. At work, the conspiracy theorists use it as a jumping off platform. And, for me, it was a good read. I loved many of the powerful descriptions; things like, “…and they would sit around the table looking at one another with extinct eyes, like ghost fading at cock crow.” I do have to admit that I thought the book had its dull moments, and that other times I thought it was terrifyingly harsh. By the end, I found myself sort of lost in the things unsaid. And, finally, at the last sentence, I realized that the book that had taken me so long to read because of lack of time, was stunning. I finished in it the morning, and by that evening, I was reeling over Winston’s bullet. This is a book that I intend to read again. I hope that I am able to devote myself to it next time. One more note to myself: Blair (Orwell) must have set out writing this story with the ending already set out in front of him. I don’t think he could have just gotten there be happens-chance.
